We recognize the complexities of adoption.

Therapy/Counseling: Adoption Wellness provides one-on-one, child-focused play therapy for adopted youth as well as one-on-one counseling for adult adoptees and others connected to adoption (adoptive parents, siblings, grandparents, significant others, spouses). Topics of specialty include:

  • adjustment/transition challenges of the newly adopted child
  • attachment parenting
  • identity-formation from a racial/ethnic perspective
  • internationally institutionalized children with developmental delays
  • adult-adoptee interpersonal relationship complexities
  • searching/reuniting with birth-family
  • trauma-informed, adoption narrative therapy for adopted youth

Groups: Adoption Wellness offers social support groups for adopted youth. Facilitated by adoption professionals and adult-adoptees, the group offers adopted youth a safe place to discuss feelings, tangibly work through emotions and feel supported by peers. Two separate groups are offered for tweens and teens. Request group flier here.

Professional Training: Adoption Wellness offers training workshops for adoption professionals with a goal of adoption competent, child-focused social work best practices.

Prospective Adoptive Parents Education/Training: Adoption Wellness offers training and education for families in the adoption process. Training workshops meet the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption criteria for required training hours for international adoptions. Workshop topics include:
